Andrea Chenier “in New York – March / April 2014 – 2

Umberto Giordano’s most acclaimed and beloved opera, Andrea Chénier, came back to the MET in a revival of the beautiful, traditional production by Nicolas Joël, with maestro Gianandrea Noseda conducting the MET Orchestra and Chorus and a stellar cast lead by Argentinian tenor Marcelo Álvarez as Chénier, soprano Patricia Racette as Maddalena and baritone Zeljko Lučić as Gérard.

This opera depends a lot on the strength of its cast, not only vocally but also dramatically. Those who say that traditional productions are not intense and touching are proven wrong with performances as the one that took place on April 8th at the MET.
